The Mathieus, guided by a vision of independence and authenticity, have established their Domaine in the biodiverse enclave of Les Labourons in Fleurie, complemented by additional parcels in La Chapelle des Bois and La Madone.
Their vineyards, now in organic conversion, are cultivated with a focus on sustainability, leveraging natural indicators and biodynamic principles to nurture the land. Vines on diverse exposures and soils—ranging from young, north-facing plots preserving freshness to 1950s plantings offering depth and resilience—capture the unique microclimates of the region. The Mathieus’ commitment to low-intervention farming includes hand-harvesting, thoughtful pruning, and the gradual restoration of healthy ecosystems.

Domaine Valma’s wines embody the elegance and vibrancy of Gamay from Beaujolais’ granite-rich soils.
Their debut vintage, Prélude, from Les Labourons, is a pure and joyous expression of the region, offering ripe strawberry notes, textural finesse, and persistence. Guided by mentors like Jacques Néauport and influenced by their studies and work in regions like Champagne and Mont Brouilly, Valentine and Stéphane craft wines with semi-carbonic maceration and minimal inputs, ensuring transparency and terroir expression. With new acquisitions in prestigious lieux-dits like La Madone, their wines reflect a dedication to capturing the freshness, depth, and evolving potential of Beaujolais’ diverse terroirs, marking Domaine Valma as an exciting new presence in the region.
