Domaine Belle Mare
Domaine Belle Mare, nestled in the heart of the Étang de Thau region, is a jewel of the Picpoul de Pinet appellation.
This family-owned Domaine, spanning 68 hectares, is passionately managed by the Lapoulvailarie family and led by Chief Winemaker Benjamin Baudry, whose international expertise elevates the wines while staying true to their terroir-driven roots.
With vines flourishing along the lagoon’s edge, the Piquepoul Blanc variety thrives in this unique ecosystem, combining the dry, arid climate of the garrigue with the cooling maritime influence of the lagoon. The wines reflect this harmony, offering a striking balance of intense minerality and vibrant fruit, characteristic of the region but with a distinct elegance. The Domaine’s sustainable practices, adhering to HVE certification, highlight their commitment to preserving the biodiversity and ecosystems of this remarkable area.
Among Domaine Belle Mare’s standouts are their two exceptional Picpoul de Pinet wines.
The first, crafted in the traditional style, captures the essence of the appellation with maritime flavours and fresh citrus and floral notes. Harvested at night and gently pressed, the must is fermented at a cool 18°C in stainless steel tanks and aged on fine lees for three months, preserving its crisp, mineral character. The second wine, an amphora-aged Picpoul, is a modern interpretation of the varietal. Similarly harvested at night and gently pressed, the must undergoes cool fermentation in amphora and ages on fine lees for 10 months, lending a rounder texture and deeper complexity. Together, these wines showcase the versatility of Picpoul de Pinet, paying homage to both its storied past and its innovative future.
