Mirus

Mirus (Latin; wonderful, strange, remarkable, amazing, surprising)

Our Mirus vineyard in Marananga has a great diversity of soils and aspects. This combined with mature, healthy plantings of traditional Barossa red varieties, led us to make a series of single block wines that express this diversity of small, rare parcels with intriguing personalities.

Mirus Wonderground celebrates the wonder of the diverse ancient soils in which their vineyards lay.

To capture the unique expression of each site they have laid/soaked paper in the soils of each block, where the fruit is sourced across the vineyard, with the leaf matter and grasses, creating a label that truly reflects the unique profile of each wine.

Mirus Wonderground is situated on 80 acres, half of which is dedicated to preserving woody grasslands featuring old bluegums, peppermint box, and sheoak trees.

Since removing livestock, the property has seen the resurgence of more than five native grass species and the planting of 500 indigenous understory plants, fostering biodiversity and creating essential habitat and food sources for native wildlife.

In the vineyard, Mirus Vineyards is transitioning toward an organic and biodynamic system. This approach includes no cultivation, low-input floor management, and the use of organic foliar sprays. Biodynamic soil preparations and compost applications are employed to improve soil structure, biological activity, and nutrient availability.

The winemaking process follows traditional methods, with all vineyard blocks fermented and matured separately in small batches. Red wines are bottled without fining or filtration, with only minimal sulphur added, ensuring wines of exceptional quality and authenticity.
